Skills & Responsibilities

This role involves working as part of the Operations team that is responsible for a variety of enterprise cloud computing platforms as well as a number of customer and staff-oriented online services. Suitable candidates should have a cursory programming background with strong problem solving skills and practical expertise in a Unix operating system. Other desirable criteria include:

  • Solid understanding of networking and Unix essentials (TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, VPN)
  • Practical experience with scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) and SQL database systems
  • Ability to adopt new technologies quickly and work efficiently
  • Strong competency in a Unix command-line environment
  • Good interpersonal and writing skills with keen attention to detail
  • Ability work in a team environment and liaise with customers and partners
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, HTML, XML and JSON

Role Duties

Day-to-day duties in this role may include:

  • Working within a team under the supervision of the Operations Manager
  • Administration, management and support of Unix-based cloud computing platforms
  • Development of automated deployment and test tools using scripting languages
  • Research and configuration of online services such as user forums, knowledge bases, WIKIs, blogs
  • Work closely with the quality assurance team to ensure software process adherence
  • Design and develop software components to standard interfaces
  • Work with external partners in a professional manner

Background & Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years work experience in software development/support
  • Strong Analytical & Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new languages & technologies
  • Ability to work under own direction and also as part of a team
  • Good communications skills – written & verbal
